Download not working?
The first time you open Soritch, macOS or Windows may block it or say it's damaged. That's because Soritch prerelease builds aren't yet signed with a paid Apple or Microsoft developer certificate, so your computer can't confirm who made the app. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with the download. Here's how to open it anyway.
macOS
“Apple could not verify Soritch”
This is the usual message. You only need to get past it once.
- Open the .dmg you downloaded and drag Soritch into Applications.
- Open Soritch from Applications. When the warning appears, click Done.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section.
- Next to “Soritch was blocked to protect your Mac”, click Open Anyway, then enter your Mac password.
- Click Open Anyway once more in the dialog that follows. From now on Soritch opens normally.
“Soritch is damaged and can’t be opened”
If you see this, or there's no Open Anyway button, you can clear the “downloaded from the internet” flag macOS puts on the app:
- Make sure Soritch is in your Applications folder.
- Open Terminal: press ⌘ Space, type Terminal and press Return.
- Paste this command and press Return:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Soritch.app- Open Soritch again. It should now start normally.
The command doesn't print anything when it works. It only affects Soritch and doesn't change any other security setting on your Mac.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine (with a space at the end), drag the Soritch app into the Terminal window to fill in its location, then press Return.
Windows
“Windows protected your PC”
This blue Microsoft Defender SmartScreen window appears for new apps that haven't built up a download history with Microsoft yet.
- Right-click the .zip you downloaded and choose Extract All. Don't run Soritch from inside the zip.
- Open the extracted folder and double-click Soritch.exe.
- On the SmartScreen window, click More info, then Run anyway.
Soritch still won’t start
Windows can mark every file that came out of a downloaded zip as blocked. To unblock them all at once:
- In File Explorer, open the extracted folder that contains Soritch.exe.
- Click the address bar, type powershell and press Enter. PowerShell opens in that folder.
- Paste this command and press Enter:
Get-ChildItem -Recurse | Unblock-File- Double-click Soritch.exe again.
Prefer not to use PowerShell? Delete the extracted folder, right-click the .zip, choose Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom, click OK, and extract it again.
Still stuck?
Email [email protected] with your operating system, whether you have an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac, and the exact message you see. A screenshot helps.
